Huntington Pays Tribute To Veterans With Parade, Special Ceremony
These courageous men and woman continue to protect and defend us and for that we are forever grateful.

They carried the flags of all branches of service, arriving at the Auld Center for an 11 a.m. ceremony hosted by the veteran’s memorial garden advisory counsel. Changing Veterans Day, however, drew public outcry because of the historical significance of November 11.
“It’s Veterans Day [today], but it’s known that is going to be the 11th month, the 11th day and the 11th hour”, the date and time when the Armistice agreement went into effect ending World War I, he said.
World War II veteran and avid Red Rock High School football fan Dick Levy will be spending Veterans Day this year on his way back from visiting the World War II Memorial at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The Tarrant County Veterans Council’s theme this year was Honoring Vietnam Veterans, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the start of the USA ground war. My uncles Dick and Orval Telecky came back; my uncle Frank Gilliam didn’t. But along the way, the project would become an icon that received so much broad support from the American people.
“When most of us Vietnam vets were sent home we were sent home individually”, Dillen said. For the veterans themselves, it was a time to celebrate one another with the kind of camaraderie only brothers-in-arms seem to understand.
The following year, President Woodrow Wilson issued an Armistice Day proclamation, declaring that “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory”.
