Huskers guarding against letdown after big win over Oregon
Banker also made it clear that the Huskers realize they’re going up against a team that may not look the part of a world-beater, but one that has playmakers.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-0) are coming from a 35-32 victory over the Oregon Ducks in week 3.
They’ve won six of their last seven since a 3-6 start in Mike Riley’s first season, and they nearly certainly will be favored in each of their next four games before visiting Wisconsin on October 29. Defensively, Northwestern football is yielding 14.7 points per game against the opposing team. “That just shows how well we work, how hard our team works to prove to everybody that we’re better than what we were previous year”.
Riley is in charge of one of the most tradition-rich programs. The most recent of those came under Tom Osborne in 1997, and Nebraska hasn’t won a conference title since Frank Solich brought one home in 1999. The Wildcats are 1-2 against the spread and have hit the under in all three games this year. Thorson still misses too many open receivers and has yet to fully learn when to take something off his throws, but arm strength has never been the problem, and he threw some dimes downfield against Duke. Nebraska fans are known for being able to tolerate some losses as long as the Huskers show up and play with effort. Memories of that loss should reinforce Riley’s message to his team about leaving the win over OR in the past. The Huskers lost their 2015 opener to BYU on a Hail Mary and four other games by three points or less.
Receiver Jordan Westerkamp said he’s not anxious about him and his teammates coming out flat after they beat the Ducks 35-32 in one of the Huskers’ most anticipated home games in years.
When asked about the play of sophomore Bryan Reimers, who made his first career start against OR and hauled in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Armstrong Jr, Langsdorf said “He’s got a bunch of range, and went up and grabbed it”. The Cornhuskers are 3-0 for just the second time in five years.
“I’m ecstatic this is the last time I see him”, Fitzgerald told reporters during his weekly press conference.
Northwestern got its first win of the season last week by beating Duke 24-13. He has really good technique. But we won the game, and I think it was a great win for us at that particular time.
“There wasn’t a lot of extracurriculars going on before the game”, he said.
“You respond either way, win or lose”, Riley said.
Text and photos by Allan Christensen and Becca Mann, NewsNetNebraska Senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. pushed through pain on Saturday evening to lead the Huskers to a 35-32 victory over No. 22 OR in Memorial Stadium. ” Abby Kastroll scored her second goal in as many games, giving U-M a 2-0 advantage in the 61st minute”.
Following a year in which it seemingly couldn’t catch a break in close games, Nebraska proved it may be ready to turn over a new leaf this season.
The Aztecs (3-0) have a 6.7 percent chance of winning out and a 26.6 percent chance of winning the Mountain West Conference.
“The competition was better, speed of the game was faster”, Banker said.
