Huskers Will Take On UCLA In Foster Farms Bowl
UCLA and Nebraska will meet the day after Christmas in the Foster Farms Bowl at Levi’s Stadium, the game’s committee announced Sunday.
The UCLA Football team (5-4, 8-4, 3rd in Pac-12 South) is now confirmed to go to the Foster Farms Bowl on December 26 and will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-5, 5-7, 4th in Big Ten West). The Bruins then had a dominant Saturday night performance against Arizona, but then were upset at home by Arizona State and then got blown out by Stanford. Coach Mike Riley is in his first Nebraska season, moving to Lincoln after 15 years at Oregon State.
There were a few names for the Foster Farms Bowl before it settled on a new title sponsor in 2014 and a new home where it will be once again in 2015.
Foster Farms Bowl Executive Director and co-founder Gary Cavalli says, “We’re very excited to select two of the top programs in college football to play in the 2015 Foster Farms Bowl”. The schools have six wins apiece in the series, meeting most recently in 2012 and 2013 in a home-and-home series.
RB Paul Perkins rushed for 1,575 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. Nebraska’s high Academic Progress Rate score was what actually put NU first in line among 5-win teams.
Despite finishing the regular season with a 5-7 record – the benchmark for bowl eligibility is often 6-6 – there weren’t enough teams that finished with even or winning records to field each of the 80 spots in this year’s slate of bowl games.
QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. threw for 2,856 yards and 21 touchdowns but was intercepted 16 times. The team previously played in the bowl in 2011, when it was called the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, and in 2006, when it was called the Emerald Bowl. The Foster Farms Bowl is Nebraska’s 52 all-time bowl appearance, the third-most of any school in the country.
The Bruins, whose first bowl experience came in the 1943 Rose Bowl Game, will be making their 35th overall bowl appearance.
The Bruins are led by quarterback Josh Rosen, this season’s Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
