Hyundai Unveils the Vision G Coupe Concept

Hyundai plans to give the public its first glance this Sunday at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. Would you like to see these styling cues on production cars? It’s a look we’re expecting on the next-generation Equus flagship sedan as well as a bigger, more luxurious successor to the Genesis Coupe.Hyundai in 2013 unveiled the HND-9, another slinky two-door concept thought to preview the new Genesis Coupe.

Hyundai, however, believes otherwise and is putting its future luxury models on the line to prove it. The vehicle maker has just revealed the existence of its new “Vision G” Concept Coupe, the auto that will be the company’s blueprint for its future premium models.

Power to the Hyundai Vision G Coupe Concept comes from an award winning Tau V8 engine. Head on, the front fascia is comprised of a large, gaping grille, above which sits the “Genesis” insignia. On Tuesday, by unveiling a slinky coupe concept with self-opening doors, Hyundai signaled that a coupe may be next on its agenda. What sets it apart, Hyundai says, is that the Vision G’s luxury design exudes luxury without going over the top.

The Vision G is a refreshing change from the barrage of unrealistic and hyper-aggressive looking crossover concepts we’ve seen so much of. Step inside and you’ll find elegant premium leather seats, seasoned with wood trim and gold accents here and there. There’s also hardly any buttons on the dash, which makes the interior look clean and modern.

“The concept was designed with coordinated input from Hyundai design studios around the world, but was led by our team here in the U.S.,” said Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s president and chief design officer.

In the engine bay things are a little more old-school, the Vision G relies on the latest version of Hyundai’s 5.0-litre “Tau” V8 with 420bhp at 6,000rpm. (The cut-line for the cargo area suggests that it is a hatchback.) Indeed, squint a little and you can nearly imagine the Vision G rendered as a five-door, a la the Audi A7.
