I-10 Shootings Suspect Arrested
An Arizona Swat Team has apprehended a suspect related to highway shootings that have terrorized motorists for weeks, according to a tweet from Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey. Fortunately, the shootings had not resulted in any serious injuries, aside from a 13-year-old being wounded as a result of shattered glass.
Authorities had been investigating a series of incidents where someone was shooting at cars along the Phoenix-area freeway. He was arrested at the time with his mother, who was later released.
“We can not give you that at this point”, says Bart Graves with DPS.
Maricopa County Attorney’s Office spokesman Jerry Cobb said prosecutors had to drop the petition because the DPS did not submit a report explaining why the man’s probation should be revoked.
He was arrested on an alleged probation violation stemming from marijuana found in the man’s house during a September 11 search based on a tip that he was violating probation by possessing a gun.
Some of the shootings involved BBs and pellets rather than bullets, police said.
Police have not released exactly what type of bullets were used in some of the shootings and have not named any other possible leads in the case.
There has been some progress in gathering and analyzing evidence, Graves said.
Milstead said investigators – including both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – are working around the clock to catch the suspect or suspects.
