I am certain my father is innocent: Rahul Mukerjea
In a related development, CBI on Saturday continued to grill former media magnate Peter Mukherjea, who was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, destroying evidence and lying to protect his wife Indrani, at the agency’s office in south Mumbai where he is being kept, sources said.
Rahul Mukerjea provided several documents of Sheena Bora to the CBI officials, the officer said, adding that those are the documents with which she was allegedly blackmailing Indrani Mukerjea.
This was despite the fact that a telephone conversation between Rahul and his father that the former had recorded after the sudden disappearance of Sheena in the last week of April 2012, helped the CBI to nail Peter in the Sheena Bora murder case.
Peter is charged with murder and felony conspiracy.
In the chargesheet, the agency said that prime accused in the high profile murder case, Indrani Mukerjea, was not happy with the love affair of Rahul and Sheena.
“The incumbent DGP (Dixit) has been given the responsibility of submitting a fresh report with corresponding documents now”. On the other hand, Indrani didn’t want Sheena and Rahul to get married, as she would have ended up losing all her property to Sheena.
“I don’t believe he knew (anything about the murder)”. Rahul had on Friday said that Peter’s arrest had come as a “shock” for him.
Rahul Mukerjea is the son of Peter Mukerjea from his first marriage with Shabnam Singh. Peter and Shabnam separated in 1994.
In this context, the charge-sheet added, “she planned a conspiracy with Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai to kill Sheena Bora”.
Peter, husband of key accused Indrani Mukerjea, was on Thursday arrested by CBI, which thereafter filed its chargesheet within the case in a Justice of the Peace courtroom right here.
Based on these two reports, former DGP Dayal had submitted a report to the government.
Earlier, this month, the CBI was given permission by the Bombay High Court to question all the three accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.
On May 23, 2012, when the body of Sheena Bora was found in a forest area in Pen taluka of Raigad district, the police had not filed either an FIR or ADR.
Upset with the “botch-up” in preliminary investigations into the sensational murder case, Maharashtra’s the then Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal ordered an inquiry into the “lapses” in the initial investigations and promised action against the erring police officials. Peter Mukerjea was reportedly slapped by a Mumbai police officer during his two days of questioning at the Khar police station, sources said. The samples were later sent to the Sir JJ Hospital in Mumbai for examination. The body of the 24-year-old was dumped at a forest in Raigad district.
