I am not afraid of CBI: Arvind Kejriwal tells Modi
“I will keep fighting till my last breath for the country”, Kejriwal said. The raid has nothing to do with Arvind Kejriwal or his tenure.
“In case he did wrong as an education secretary then the CBI should have searched the education department”, he said. The agency said it has recovered Rs.2.4 lakh and an additional Rs. 3 lakh in foreign currency from Kumar’s house. “Gone are days of Congress when CBI used to be misused”. “If they were looking for proof of corruption, they should be looking for the concerned files in those departments. The allegations against Rajendra Kumar were raised by Ashish Joshi, former Member Secretary, Delhi Dialogue Commission”, the agency said.
The CBI spokesperson later said that reports from certain quarters regarding searches at the office of Delhi chief minister “are baseless”.
Senior leaders of the party attacked the government over the raids, calling the incident shameful and a new low in politics.
Accusing Delhi chief minister of giving the news of CBI raids a political colour, BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned Arvind Kejriwal for defending a person who is facing serious allegations. How can you criticise the Government of India and the Prime Minister?
“CBI raided my office”, Kejriwal tweeted.
On Wednesday morning, taking to micro-blogging site, Kejriwal tweeted, “CBI kept reading DDCA file in my office”.
“I am saying it categorically that Principal Secretary Rajender Kumar ji is an excuse, they are actually targeting Kejriwal ji”, claimed Sisodia. They wud hv seized it. But after my media briefing, they left it. Not clear if they took a copy. The CBI officers scanned files of the Chief Minister’s office relating to corruption in the dealings of Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). Kumar, like Kejriwal is an IIT alumnus, and has been accused by CBI of favouring private companies in awarding government contracts from 2007-2014. “We are in a federal system and everybody has been assigned their responsibilities and they have to act in accordance with the Constitution”, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu reacted. However, Kejriwal hit back, saying it had “lied” and that his office files are being looked into to “get evidence” against him.
Kejriwal said his office has been raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Kumar’s office is situated on the same floor as Kejriwal’s in the Delhi Secretariat. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar too slammed the Modi-led govt on the raids.
