I am not ready to manage Real Madrid – Zidane
Benitez’ position appears to be under threat after the humiliating 4-0 El Clasico home defeat to Barcelona on Saturday, with Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague saying he is “likely to be sacked”. The loss prompted calls from the team fans for his resignation.
“Real Madrid already have a new coach in Zidane, I believe it’s time to give him the opportunity, as Barca did with Pep Guardiola and Luis Henrique [sic]”.
The Frenchman, however, had earlier stated his desire to coach the senior team of Real Madrid.
“I am with Castilla and if I stay at the club it is the coach Castilla”.
“Be careful when you associate crisis talk with Real Madrid, although it’s hard for me to judge what’s happening from outside”.
There has been suggestions in the media that Zidane could soon become Madrid’s 14th manager in the last 12 years, but the former France and Bernabeu star, who is now in charge of the club’s B side Castilla, says he is in no hurry to be promoted. Things are fine at the moment.
“I have a long way to go, and anyway a manager is never really fully formed”.
“I am doing this, like a player, little by little”. I ended last season with the feeling that something was missing. “I am stubborn and when the objective is not fulfilled it is necessary to do it”.
“I’m happy with what we’ve done today with the Castilla against a hard rival”.
