I could “shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters”
“Trump understands he has enough people who will eagerly swallow anything he says that whatever he does genuinely does not matter”. “There are already two lawsuits filed, but they don’t have standing, I have standing to sue (as a candidate), can you imagine if I did it?” Speaking at a Christian college in northwest Iowa, Trump suggested that “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?”.
The crowd in Sioux Center laughed.
Grassley, too, said he is remaining neutral in the race, even as he and others have expressed concerns about Texas U.S. Sen.
“I don’t know that we are ready to have someone who is a core conservative”, Feeney said before a Cruz rally on Wednesday.
The tycoon attacked conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s support of rival Ted Cruz and welcomed a figure from the Republican establishment, Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa.
But Cruz voters in New Hampshire said this week that they would like to see him moderate his message to broaden his appeal – something Cruz says goes against what he stands for.
“We need a new George Washington”, Beck said in a statement.
“It’s not somebody who’s got a lot of strip clubs and casinos”. I have standing to sue.
Cruz closed the rally with a almost 40 minute speech. Trump is 69 and unlikely to have had positions on abortion and health care as a child.
“If a Republican candidate has for over 60 years of his life embraced a “Bernie Sanders-style socialized medicine for all” and if that candidate still today supports a “Bernie Sanders socialized medicine for all” – is there any chance on Earth that that candidate would actually repeal ObamaCare?” Cruz asked voters. “Washington consultants… always say ‘the way you win is you run to the middle'”.
This endorsement has been anticipated since it was announced Wednesday that Beck would be joining Cruz to speak in Waterloo, Iowa.
The endorsement comes in the wake of Sarah Palin, another conservative heavyweight, endorsing Donald Trump earlier this week.
Mainstreet Research said 70% of those surveyed have an “unfavourable” view of Trump compared to 19% who had a favourable view.
He also sounded some favorite themes of Trump, telling the audience: “You and I believe in sovereign borders, you and I believe in the right to keep and bear arms”.
Most legal experts have agreed with Cruz’s assessment, but the issue has never been settled in federal court, and Trump noted Saturday that he would have legal standing to sue Cruz over the issue as an opponent for the Republican presidential nomination. “…That doesn’t mean he’s not giving us a fight in Iowa”. “There’s a point at which – let’s get to be a little establishment”.
At the awards ceremony, held in conjunction with a gun show, Trump reiterated his support for the Second Amendment – a topic that has been a constant refrain at his rallies and often draws loud applause.
