‘I deserved the MVP’ – Houston Rockets star James Harden
James Harden was an absolute beast for the Houston Rockets last season.
There’s plenty to wade through in that piece, but of particular note is the fact that Harden is still miffed about not winning the regular-season MVP award (apparently the Player’s Choice MVP wasn’t much of a consolation). In an interview with Fran Blinebury of NBA.com, Harden expressed his disappointment and explained why he should have won. “That’s 100 percent given all the things that happened last season”.
The MVP runner-up believes he should’ve won the award over Stephen Curry.
I do love the “I’m not taking anything away from Steph”, but he certainly would like to take the award away from him because he feels he deserved it. It’s similar to saying “no offense” to someone before you blatantly offend them with what you have to say. The Warriors went on to defeat the Rockets in the conference finals in five games and win their first title since 1975.
Confidence shows leadership and can be key to success, and Harden may not have won the MVP this year but he has the ability to do that next year, according to SB Nation. I led the league in total points scored, minutes played. Their assist numbers were comparable at 7.0 for Harden and 7.7 for Curry, and Curry averaged 32.7 minutes per contest compared with Harden’s 36.8. The 27-year-old averages 20 points per game through his six seasons in the National Basketball Association.
While Harden said he means no disrespect to Curry and the Golden State Warriors, the Rockets star made it a point to explain why he was deserving of the league’s top individual honor over Curry. Dwight Howard scored 5 points on 2-of-8 from the filled, fitting in quite well with his friends. We ended up with the debate of whether Curry’s dominance was more valuable to the Warriors than Harden’s resilience.
Writers and experts had discussed and compared the two candidates for months before the voting ended and statistically it was pretty even. Every year the MVP is interpreted in two different ways: the literal description and the “best player on best team” logic. I’m going to be the best player in the league. “I thought I was previous year too”.
