‘I’m not into that hoopla. I’m on a mission’
The Mayweather-Pacquiao snooze-fest may have happened more than three months ago, and Floyd Mayweather may be on the verge of a new fight with Andre Berto, but the Mayweather camp isn’t done talking about Pacquiao just yet.
In this video interview, Floyd Mayweather Sr. says he thinks that Andre Berto will put up a better fight than Pacquiao did, while dismissing Manny’s shoulder injury.
Mayweather took questions for about 25 minutes or so, a couple of which were devoted to asking what he thought of Serena Williams’ recent run. “I’m glad Mike’s getting his big shot”. Mayweather said. It’s also bad for Mayweather because it means he’s going to likely be losing out on a lot of pay-per-view sales for having selected an opponent that the fight fans aren’t interested in seeing.
Mayweather could continue to have his pick of opponents in 2016, when he would be a television free agent.
About the only illuminating item to come from the call was the tidbit that Mayweather may be interested in an acting career after boxing.
“Over the last week, we’ve received three major movie offers so we fully expect Floyd to be heavily, heavily involved in the entertainment industry because this is what he does”, he said. Although as soon as the words left Ellerbe’s mouth, Mayweather interjected, saying he was only interested in doing something “behind the scenes”.
“But he’s one of those guys who doesn’t abuse his body and he’s always respected the sport”.
There are still over 2,000 secondary market tickets listed on TiqIQ for the fight and Mayweather vs Berto tickets have an average price of ,138.58 on the secondary market, with the cheapest ticket priced at $252.
When he was asked if he was interested in facing the victor of Miguel Cotto’s middleweight title fight with Saul (Canelo) Alvarez on November 21, he threw the questioner under the bus.
Mayweather Jr. and Berto face it off in the ring this September 12 at 8 p.m. with telecast on Showtime PPV. If I’d looked at those odds I’d be sitting… probably trying to figure it out on the streets, smoking weed.
It seems that Mayweather is going to be just fine during his life after boxing. I’ve velocity, I’ve energy, I’ve a loopy uppercut, I can transfer to the aspect. “I’ve had haters since I was at high school, when I was stealing their girlfriends and all that”, said Berto, who was born in the United States but identifies heavily with Haiti, where his family are from.
