I’m “one of the greatest” managers – Mourinho
The United boss stormed out of his post-match press conference after the 3-0 loss to Spurs at Old Trafford on Monday, demanding he received more respect and referenced his title wins with Chelsea.
Having spent the days leading up to the start of the season making his feelings known about the lack of transfer activity at Manchester United, Mourinho has watched his side make a far from convincing start to the new campaign. Mourinho said (via ManUtd.com). Hegel says, the truth is in the whole.
“The problem was, you always feel, and it is something that is certainly uncharacteristic of a Jose Mourinho side, how he has built his reputation on strong defences, hard to break through”.
To the manager that finished fourth?
“It was tough last season, it will be tough this one”.
The 23-year-old defender’s fortunes faltered last season, with Jose Mourinho preferring Ashley Young in his starting line-up – helping the veteran prove his form to win a place in the England World Cup squad.
“Last season he did it against us away and at home, like Chelsea last week”, he added.
“I am the manager of the one of the greatest clubs in the world but I’m also one of the greatest managers in the world”, said Mourinho.
“He played three very good matches and is not easy to play three very good matches when your team loses two of them”, said Mourinho.
“We won the Europa League because that was our level”.
“I think we played really well in the first half and if we keep playing like that, and we take our chances, then we have got to win games”.
Mourinho won the League Cup and Europa League in his first season at United and finished second in the Premier League last season – albeit a record 19 points behind Manchester City.
Guardiola, whose side host Newcastle on Saturday, was asked at his pre-match conference press on Friday if he was surprised about the amount of pressure Mourinho had come under so early in the season.
“Everyone in the dressing room is really sad, especially after the first half we had and especially a big thank you to the fans for the way they supported us, even when we were down 3-0, was awesome”.
