‘I think he will stay’ – Leicester chief on Jamie Vardy
Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy said today that there have been no developments regarding his future at the club, as he focuses on his England duties at Euro 2016.
Arsenal have triggered the £20m release clause in the Premier League Champion’s contract and have offered the former Fleetwood man a contract.
Vardy got his first taste of action at Euro 2016 as a halftime substitute against Wales in England’s second game, and made a quick impact by scoring within 11 minutes of coming on.
“When I come off that pitch, I am still straight back into the England camp”.
That was just the latest chapter in Vardy’s remarkable rise, having gone from non-league football with Stocksbridge Park Steels and FC Halifax Town, to the Champions League in five whirlwind years. “I am curious to see what will happen: it’s an incredible group and I want to see what we can do”.
That’s according to Foxes chief Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, who has also stated he is confident that the 29-year-old striker will stay with the Premier League champions.
Vardy became the first outfield City player, and the first player since Gordon Banks at the 1966 World Cup, to feature for England at a major tournament when Roy Hodgson introduced him for Harry Kane at half-time.
Jake Apperley, Director at Free Super Tips, said: “5000/1 was the price given to Leicester winning the league past year and the bookmakers are still hurting”.
“There’s no point being afraid of teams”, Vardy said.
“It’s good when you have players who can do something that little bit different in and around the penalty area”, he said.
And he said: “It has been easy to shut that out”.
“That’s just down to me and how much work I am putting in”.
But Vardy, who finished as the Premier League’s second highest scorer in 2015-16 in a Leicester City which recorded a surprise league title win, has admitted turning to energy drinks rather than weights in his quest to find his flawless preparation for big matches after being spotted with buying Red Bull and nicotine patches recently.
“He’ll be putting the extra effort in during training himself to hopefully stay in the starting line-up and get cracking”.
“We want to keep him”, Ranieri told Sky Sports Italia.
