IAEA set to issue final report on Iranian nuke deal
It denies it had any intention to build nuclear weapons.
The legislation targets more than 50 individuals and entities included in an attachment to the nuclear deal that also are on Treasury’s “Specially Designated Nationals” list, which freezes any assets they may have in the US and generally prohibits anyone in the USA from doing business with them.
Kerry relayed this information to the White House and the Pentagon, according to the official.
It must have been the shortest hostage crisis in the history of the Middle East.
On Tuesday, skeptics may have gained more ammunition when Iran’s coast guard detained 10 USA sailors after their two Navy patrol boats broke down and apparently strayed into Iranian waters. The report said Iran demanded an apology and that the sailors would remain in captivity as they were questioned about whether they entered Iran’s waters to gather intelligence.
While he and Kerry exchanged a “few words” about the Saudi-Iranian dispute, Zarif said last week, “it does not mean that we have launched negotiations with the U.S”.
Some analysts argue that the US vacillation set the stage for a risky diplomatic flare-up several days later between Saudi Arabia, a longtime USA ally, and Iran, which remains deeply hostile to Washington.
Is President Obama going to deal with this by issuing a Global Warming Executive Order against Iran?
While Iran says it will need $100 billion to rebuild its energy industry and another $29 billion for mining and steel, foreign investors are expected to return only gradually as they wait to make sure the nuclear deal holds.
Echoing Saudi and Israeli concerns, Republican lawmakers say they’re unsettled by the warming ties. The kingdom then could claim it is a bulwark against Iranian aggression.
Iranian state TV says nuclear experts have finished removing the core of the country’s only nuclear heavy water reactor as part of Tehran’s obligations under its nuclear deal with world powers. “Neither the United States government wants it nor Iran wants it”.
The U.S. and Iran have avoided what could have been a major worldwide incident.
The U.S.is banking on its new dynamic with Iran, and particularly Kerry’s relationship with Zarif.
Iran was required to ship out most of its stockpile of enriched uranium, a material that can be used for making bombs, and take apart thousands of the centrifuges that enrich the material.
Iran is “testing the limits of global patience” with its missile launches, said Ray Takeyh, a senior fellow with the Council of Foreign Relations and former advisor to the Obama administration.
Even more extraordinary, an Iranian commander appeared on television, saying Iran believed America’s excuse that it had all been an accident and its naval vessels drifted into Iranian waters by mistake. Some called for a review of the nuclear deal in light of Iran’s actions.
Under the nuclear agreement, Iran must redesign the Arak reactor so it can’t produce plutonium for nuclear weapons.
Under the terms of the agreement, known as the JCPOA, global sanctions against Iran will be lifted once the IAEA, the Vienna-based United Nations nuclear watchdog, confirms Iran has restricted its nuclear programme.
