Ibe desperate for goals
Liverpool starlet Jordon Ibe has admitted that he remains undecided on his global future, amidst interest from both England – who are set to offer him an Under-21 call up next week – and Nigeria.
Ibe is yet to score his first goal for Liverpool FC since breaking in the side last season. That’s what I wanted to do with Alex anyway. The next day there was Kenny which was a nice surprise.
“Alex Inglethorpe sorted the sessions out”.
“We just did some shooting, crossing and getting in the areas where the ball might be when the opposite winger is crossing it”, he said.
“It’s great advice from someone like Kenny who has scored all types of goals, tap ins, shots from 30 yards”.
‘It’s been fantastic for someone of his stature to give his comments and help me out.
“I have seen clips of Kenny on YouTube, and the times they show the legends on LFCTV”.
Ibe revealed: ‘It’s an aspect of the game I need to learn about, crossing the ball early enough. Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler have also joined in the training sessions at times. “I know I put too much pressure on myself but all I can do is hope the first one comes along” – though the player Liverpool really want to get on the end of crosses is their £32m striker Christian Benteke.
Ibe was also about the possibility of him taking the place of Raheem Sterling, who rose through the ranks to become an important player for the Reds, before leaving for Manchester City this summer.
“The gaffer gives a chance to everyone. If you proved yourself in pre-season training then you would be given a chance whether you were a senior player or an 18-year-old like Joe Gomez who has done well”. He isn’t fearful of the comparisons and the subsequent expectations. “I don’t know if there is a timeline for a decision”, Ibe said. If I can do that I can add assists to my game and not just worry about goals. Ibe is keeping his options open. But it has given me confidence to replace Raheem in the team.
“On the first day I came in, it was just me and him”.
“I have not spoken to the gaffer about it yet, or my parents”. I’m fairly happy with my form so far but I still think I could do much better, especially attacking the full-back.
“They have signed some good players, it is going to be a totally different game and we are excited”, he told Sky Sports. They are all young, like me.
Ibe said: ‘This is a really big club so it (our ambition) can only be for us to get into the top four’.
