IBM to Offer Apple Pay on the Web to Commerce Clients
At its annual WWDC developer conference, Apple today announced macOS users will soon be able to use Apple Pay while browsing on Safari.
This is a pretty huge step forward for Apple Pay. When they click the button a notice will pop up on the screen asking them to authenticate the purchase by either using Touch ID on their phone or the Apple watch.
Apple Pay on the web will be made available to clients that use IBM’s WebSphere Commerce or IBM Commerce on Cloud. “It’s now available in the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia, China and Singapore and, in the next few months, it’s coming to Switzerland, France and Hong Kong”.
“Strong encryption protects all communication between your devices and Apple Pay servers and Apple Pay does not track your purchases”, the statement added.
The move also means Apple is also firmly setting its sights on PayPal, the current king of payments on the web. “Web-native payment methods dominate this space right now”.
Federighi also said Apple Pay will work via Safari with participating merchants in the upcoming version of iOS 10, which is due to arrive for free in the fall for many models of iPhones and iPads.
