ICC: ICC: Day-night Tests ‘here to stay’
Cricket Australia said they will schedule more day-night Test matches following the overwhelming success of the recent trial against New Zealand staged under lights in Adelaide.
Pat Cummins, another promising young fast bowler, remains sidelined with a serious back injury, while Mitchell Johnson’s retirement has further stretched Australia’s fast bowling resources.
WELL, I couldn’t have got things more wrong with my comments on the pink ball cricket test in Adelaide.
Nathan Coulter-Nile has been added to Australia’s squad for the first Test against West Indies, while Victoria fast bowler Scott Boland has been named as a standby player in case any of the bowlers struggle to recover after the win over New Zealand in Adelaide.
Nathan Coulter-Nile has been called up to the squad, with fellow uncapped right-armer Scott Boland in reserve. “Intuitively you would assume that it would be a success, but everything seemed to go even better than to plan”, he said.
Marsh said ideally Coulter-Nile would have been playing the whole Shield season and taken 40 wickets.
“We’ve had our eye on Nathan for a long time”.
Test spearhead Mitchell Starc says he’s unsure when he’ll be fit enough to bowl again, with Australia’s medical team to reassess his foot injury in three or four weeks.
Once unstoppable, the Windies have not recorded a Test series win away against any nation except for minnows Zimbabwe and Bangladesh since a 1-0 triumph in New Zealand in February 1995.
Steve Smith is contemplating a change in Australia’s batting order for the first Test against the West Indies, which starts on December 10 in Hobart.
“He’s one that we’ll be keeping our eye on for sure, because he’s very tall and he swings the ball and he had a brilliant junior career”, Marsh said.
“I really don’t see question marks and I hope the players aren’t thinking that way either because that is negative”, Richardson told reporters.
“There will be a point where (surgery) has to happen… that’s something we’ll look at down the track”.
The first day-night Test saw attendances total 123,736 over three days, making it a huge hit.
Coulter-Nile should be on drinks duty in Hobart, where James Pattinson is fully expected to play in place of Starc.
