Ice Cube denies starring with his son in LA riots movie
However, Ice Cube’s publicist revealed in a public statement that the two have not officially bound themselves in partaking a role in the said upcoming movie. Have no plans to commit to this project at this time. Variety posted the statement first. While they were approached about the film months ago, talks stalled and did not move forward.
But right now the duo is confirmed not to be attached to the project.
The inescapable “Bye, Felicia” meme was born from Ice Cube’s “Friday” back in 1995, creating the ideal dismissal hashtag years before Twitter had a chance to help further popularize it. The phrase, which the Internet has since integrated into social media vernacular, received a nod in the Cube-produced biopic “Straight Outta Compton” and sparked quite a response – for both its humorous tone and its problematic portrayal of women. This led the source to formulate speculations that due to the recent success of “Straight Outta Compton” in the Box Office, two of the actors would fit perfectly in the upcoming movie.
The film has also been lauded by critics for its depiction of the 80’s rap scene.
Cube will be seen next in the sequel to “Ride Along” with Kevin Hart, which bows in January.
When asked if he could envision a hip hop artist having the same kind of political impact as N.W.A did when they arrived onto the music scene, Ice Cube said he was sure they could.
