Ice Cube to Star in The Christmas Carol Retelling Humbug
With “Ebenezer”, rapper Ice Cube joins the long list of actors (including George C. Scott, pictured right) to take on the miserly role of Scrooge.
As Humbug, Cube will become a successful realtor who is given a lesson in life by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future, reports Deadline.
The thought of Dr Dre turning up as an updated Jacob Marley, Run DMC as the three spirits and Eazy-Z as Jacob Marley (we can dream) is just too perfect.
Universal recently made a lot of money with Ice Cube thanks to Straight Outta Compton and Ride Along, so they’re not doubt hoping for a similar box office windfall this time around. Instead, he’s about to play Scrooge.
Tim Story (Barbershop, Fantastic Four, Think Like a Man) is currently assigned to direct, while Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones wrote the script that was bid on by Universal, MGM, New Line and Disney.
Deadline Hollywood are hinting at a 2017 release date, however the studio have yet to offer any confirmation. The duo has also collaborated on the “Ride Along” series, which will soon see a folllow-up movie directed by Story and starring Cube and Kevin Hart.
