ICYMI in NFL Week 11: Dak Prescott looking Super for Cowboys
But that’s exactly what they were.
After a week that was anything but ordinary in Dallas, the Cowboys’ offense delivered another comprehensive performance in a 27-17 victory over Baltimore. Baltimore was the AFC North’s last chance at the Cowboys in 2016.
STEELERS 24, BROWNS 9: Le’Veon Bell scored on a 1-yard run after time expired in the first half, and Pittsburgh (5-5) had eight sacks as it snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory at Cleveland (0-11). But it appears that only the division victor will make the playoffs, a departure from recent seasons. The offense still struggled at times, but the Ravens ran the ball well.
“I am going to continue to stay away from it”, said ever-optimistic Dallas owner Jerry Jones, who’s been known to engage in Super Bowl talk in the past. “There are a lot of reasons for it”.
“That’s the best thing I feel like we’ve done all year”, said tight end Jason Witten.
Said Garrett about facing a first-and-30: “We all tell ourselves, ‘Hey, let’s get some of this back”.
Then came the confidence-boosting drive at the end of the half.
But Dallas regrouped after halftime as Dak Prescott caught fire and torched the Ravens secondary with over 300 yards passing and three touchdowns. The Vikings are the first team since the 1962 Dallas Cowboys to have a 100+ yard interception-return touchdown and a 100+ yard kickoff-return touchdown in the same game. Prescott was banged around in the first half, but protection improved and so did his accuracy after a very rough start.
Dallas got its best field position of the first half at their own 48-yard line thanks to a holding call on the Ravens’ punt.
With Tony Romo conceding the starting quarterback spot for the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott now has free reigns to run the hottest team in the NFL.
Fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott had 97 yards, but the Ravens held him to 3.9 yards per carry, the first time he’s been held under 4.0 since Week 2.
Things didn’t start out well for the Cowboys, as they failed to score on their first four possessions.
All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant had his best game this season against the Ravens secondary, catching six receptions for 80 yards and splashing two touchdowns.
The Ravens followed with 46-yard field goal from Justin Tucker.
But Prescott seemed to find his groove on a 41-yard pass to Brice Butler that got the Cowboys inside the 10 with 7:15 left in the second quarter.
But Dallas had scoring drives of 92 and 88 yards to start the second half, breaking a 10-10 tie.
ARLINGTON, Texas Midway through Sunday’s second quarter, the Dallas Cowboys did not look like the only National Football League team with one loss. They didn’t punt again the rest of the game. Marshal Yanda switched from right guard to left guard with Alex Smith out with a high ankle sprain.
The momentum turned when Baltimore’s next drive stalled after an unnecessary roughing penalty on Jeremy Zuttah – his third penalty of the game.
Early on, results were more encouraging.
After Jarvis Landry caught a 10-yard TD pass with 4:02 to play, the Dolphins got the ball right back and drove downfield for Parker’s diving TD reception in the corner.
The possession ended with a chip-shot 21-yard field by Bailey to put the Cowboys up by 10. It’s another way for the Cowboys to extend their steady, long drives that have worn down defenses.
These Cowboys now have the longest single-season winning streak in franchise history at nine games. All of whom proved to be more pretenders than actual contenders.
“If we play good solid football, if we play winning football, eliminate the mistakes, we would have won the game in my mind”, he said.
