Ideal Signing: Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren excited by Florian Thauvin
Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has welcomed five new faces to St James’ Park so far this summer, with the club spending a fair amount of money to sign the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and latest new arrival Florian Thauvin.
And Marseilles claim that by cashing in on the youngster and signing Remy Cabella on a season-long loan, they have got the better of the deal between the clubs.
‘It’s a big chance for him in the Premier League because the whole world will be watching him, ‘ said Waddle. The ex-England man told the Chronicle: “I’ve always been a fan of the kid”.
Thauvin was identified as a potential signing by chief scout Graham Carr more than two years ago and the club has been monitoring his situation since. He will find it very different because when he’s on the ball everything will be moving at 100mph and he’s probably not used to that in France. “At Newcastle he has a lot of French players around him to help him settle”.
Thauvin has played 85 times for Marseille, scoring 15 goals and providing 18 assists in the process, and he has also turned out 48 times for Bastia and three times for Grenoble Foot 38.
‘This is a good stepping stone for him and I am sure he will want to get Newcastle away from the bottom half’.
Thauvin had said about Waddle: “I was really delighted to be compared to a legend like Chris Waddle back in France”. He is a talent and hopefully he will fulfil his potential because he has all the attributes to be a top player’.
