Identical strangers stunned when they meet each other while studying
Ciara, from Co Wexford, headed off on her year overseas not knowing anyone, as did Cordelia Roberts from the UK. They had never met before their run-in overseas.
“I didn’t know what they were talking about in the beginning”, said Murphy.
The two recorded a video for Twin Strangers, the online community geared toward helping people find their own doppelgängers, and it’s since been picked up by sites like the Guardian.
Cordelia and Ciara said they did not know each other before they met, but both were repeatedly told by friends and strangers they looked alike.
She said: “Now around college people call them “the twins”…they’re always together now, they’re like a package deal”. With their high foreheads, oval-shaped faces, and similar noses, they look like they could be sisters, if not twins.
In the video, Ciara said: “I came over here, I was totally alone, in an airport [with] three big bags, no clue where I was going… but then, it started to get better”.
Now, they’re practically joined at the hip, and are known as the “twins” around campus since they posted the photo.
One night when they were out with a few friends, they kept getting asked if they were sisters. They took a good look at each other, chose to take a photo together and that’s when the light bulb went off: they were each other’s doppelganger. “In fact, it’s a good conversation starter”.
A couple of exclamations and a few selfies later, the duo have officially declared themselves “twin strangers”.
