Idris Elba responds to James Bond author Anthony Horowitz’s “too street” comments
“Fury Street” actor Tom Hardy might exchange Daniel Craig as the subsequent James Bond, new studies recommend.
“Bond is weak in it”, said the author to the Daily Mail.
Hardy has shot ahead of long time favourite Idris Elba with new odds of 3/1 to play the role.
While Idris Elba as next James Bond in a movie makes an appealing choice, mostly because of its probable historical significance, the “Luther” and “Pacific Rim” actor is not what most fans want, at least based on a poll held by a private firm. But the author, who was forced to apologise last week after saying he thought the actor Idris Elba was “too street” to play 007, may have landed himself in hot water again after criticising previous attempts to revive the Bond franchise.
Other actors considered for the role of James Bond are Damian Michael Fassbender, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Dougray Scott, Rupert Friend and Dominic West.
The author Horowitz, 60, recently apologized for calling Elba “too rough” and “too street” to play Bond.
“I am mortified to have caused offence”, he added.
Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman has shaken up the race to wield the golden gun after he revealed that he would not hesitate to take on the role which he reportedly had given up eight years ago. In his new Bond novel, “Trigger Mortis“, Horowitz will be showing James Bond in a totally different avatar. “That wasn’t my intention”, Horowitz said on Twitter.
Top caliber actors are now being considered to play the very special Agent 007 in the reimagined “James Bond” film and some of your favorites may be included. In the article I expressed the opinion that to my mind Adrian Lester would be a better choice but I’m a writer not a casting director so what do I know? In a contrite tweet, Horowitz explained that he was thinking of Elba’s gritty detective role in the BBC series “Luther” when he made the “street” remark.
