If Donald Trump had his way, your iPhone would be insanely pricey
Interestingly, presidential hopeful,
“Wouldn’t it be a great thing if the new leader of Apple said we’re going to start building plants in the United States”, Trump said in an early 2012 interview with Fox News. Getting Apple to return manufacturing for all of its products to the US would be no easy thing – the company flipped a profit of $11.1 billion during its last fiscal quarter and is coming off its most successful year ever.
Bringing Apple’s manufacturing jobs home isn’t totally out of the question.
Apple declined to respond to Trump’s remarks. Having said that, tech giant doesn’t outsource its manufacturing exclusively to cut costs but because it has partnered with some of the best names in the world, China’s Foxconn. Mr. Trump is an odyssey to “Make America Great Again, ‘ and he aims to do so by pulling off everything he can given that he comes to power”.
Just 12 days from the Iowa caucus, first stop on the long road to the GOP convention, Senator Ted Cruz and Donald Trump each have polling leads in Iowa, though Cruz’s lead is in the more highly regarded poll.; meanwhile, Marco Rubio runs third. Trump came about his outsourcing theories that were based on Ford’s intention to relocate its factories to Mexico, and cites that he has plans to introduce a 35% import tax for products assembled or manufactured outside of the United States – regardless of what they are. But we have to do it [force them back to the US].
As CNET reports, he said: “Free trade is good”.
“We gotta create jobs – we gotta bring back the jobs from China, we gotta bring back the jobs from Japan and all these countries that are ripping us off”, he said. If Trump was elected president, the most he could do would be to incentive Apple to start manufacturing in the country again, but considering back in 2011 the late Steve Jobs famously told Barack Obama that the manufacturing Apple had outsourced to other countries would not return to the United States, it seems unlikely that Trump would be able to do so.
“We are going to do what’s good for the country”, Mr. Trump said.
