IKEA Is Coming To Indiana
Officials confirmed the news at a conference Tuesday morning, the store will be located off Interstate 69 and 116th Street in Fishers, Ind. The company plans to open the store in fall 2017.
The store will mark the first and potentially only IKEA store in the state with the closest stores being in the Cincinnati area of West Chester, Ohio, Chicago area of Bolingbrook and IKEA Schaumburg.
IKEA, a popular furnishings retailer, announced it’s opening a store in central Indiana.
“We are excited at the prospect of growing our Midwest presence with an Indianapolis-area store”, said IKEA USA president Lars Petersson.
During the next several months, the company will need economic and zoning approval from the Fishers City Council for the store to become a reality.
The IKEA announcement means a $40 million investment and a big victory for new Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness. They hope to get those by next summer.
The project coincides with major construction expected along I-69 near the proposed site during the next two years, which is meant to ease traffic congestion and entice development. “Statistically they’re slowest time is between 4 and 6 pm”.
