IKEA Removes Window Blinds Hazardous To Kids
It’s part of the retailer’s ongoing home safety program, Safer Homes Together. A spokeswoman for Target said the company stopped selling window blinds with cords earlier this year, in the spring. Ikea representatives said that statistic is what sparked the decision to do away with the cords. The cords that dangle from window blinds might seem unassuming, but they can pose a fatal threat if they accidentally wrap around babies’ or toddlers’ necks.
Under the move, it is phasing out the blinds in the USA ahead of its previously planned global phase out date of January 1, 2016. For more information about window covering safety and other important home safety information, please visit www.IKEA.ca/saferhomestogether.
Ikea is no longer selling window blinds with cords because of the risk of strangulation.
IKEA isn’t the only retailer to do this. Founded in 1943, IKEA’s business philosophy is to offer a wide range of products of good design and function at prices so low, the majority of people can afford them.
