IL to suspend acceptance of Syrian refugees
Their opposition came as multiple governors, including Illinois’s Bruce Rauner, announced that their states would not accept Syrian refugees.
The news release from Rauner’s office states the recent terror attacks in Paris reminds citizens of “the all-too-real security threats facing America”, and that IL “must find a way to balance our tradition as a state welcoming of refugees while ensuring the safety and security of our citizens”.
The suspension of Illinois’ acceptance of refugees is temporary until the security process for reviewing the refugees is scrutinized by the Department of Homeland Security.
