Illness hit Clinton campaign staff before she got pneumonia
Clinton’s explanation for why she did not tell the public – and shared with only a few top staffers – that she had pneumonia is that she “just didn’t think it was going to be that big a deal”. Clinton vowed to return to the campaign trail within the “next couple of days”.
Clinton, who has said she is the candidate to unify a divided country, made the “deplorables” comment at a fundraiser Friday night in NY. On Friday, during follow-up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. “Hillary Clinton still hasn’t apologised to those she slandered”. But during her interview Monday, Clinton sought to turn criticism of her secrecy over her illness into an attack on Republican rival Donald Trump.
Cokie Roberts confirmed in an NPR report the nervous whispers of Democratic Party leaders that Hillary Clinton may have to bow out because of her health, Mediaite reported.
“What happened yesterday was that I just was incredibly committed to being at the memorial”, Clinton told CNN. “You can’t say the same thing about Donald Trump”, she said.
“(Clinton) continues to feel better, but intends to remain at home today, following her doctor’s recommendation to rest”, campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said. Once I got in. “I decided that I did need to leave and as soon as I got into the air conditioned van, I cooled off, I got some water and very quickly, I felt better”. She also revealed that the reason she felt dizzy and lost her balance on Sunday was because she had gone to the event against her doctor’s advice to rest for a while following the diagnosis on Friday.
Clinton’s campaign said Monday it would release new medical records in order to quell any concern over the Democratic president candidate’s physical ability.
Elie Attie, a speechwriter in Bill Clinton’s White House, explained the campaign’s close-to-the-vest attitude as a combination of factors: Both the former secretary of state and former president are lawyers, and they put a “premium on withholding information”.
A federal investigation of that issue said she was “extremely careless” in her handling of classified emails, but did not recommend criminal charges.
And, you know, it’s just so – it’s so odd that with all of that information out there, and as soon it became clear I couldn’t power through, we, you know, we said what was going on.
But as Clinton approached her van, a 50-year-old man by the name of Zdenek Gazda filmed her with his smartphone. Clinton said she regretted the remark. “You compare everything you know about me with my opponent”.
Trump has himself aroused controversy with comments in which he called some Mexican immigrants criminals and rapists, questioned whether a USA -born judge could be fair because of his Mexican heritage and criticized the Muslim parents of an American soldier who died in combat in Iraq.
Clinton admitted: “If we weren’t fast enough, you know, I’ve talked to my staff, we, you know, take responsibility for that”. He tweeted: “Antibiotics can take care of pneumonia”. He said Clinton’s rough weekend raises the stakes for the first presidential debate on September 26, which “will either finish Trump or, if he does well, it will create a race”. More than 20 hours later, her campaign gave a fuller accounting of the episode, which sparked a wave of bipartisan concern about her health and questions about her political transparency.
Democrats said her attendance at events despite her pneumonia diagnosis proved her toughness.
