Images of Katie Ledecky’s 800m record swim are boggling minds on Twitter

Turns out, the less-than-glittering times at the US trials were no indication of how fast they would swim once they got to the big stage.

The 23 usa gold medals thus far in Rio were won in swimming (15), gymnastics (2), track and field (2), cycling (1), judo (1), rowing (1), and shooting (1). But with attention turning to the track, perhaps it’s time for some runners to get in the record books.

The scenery for the rowing competition in Guanabara Bay is spectacular.

Britain won seven of 10 gold medals possible in London in 2012. “Sharing that with three other women is just icing on the cake”. But for now at least, Saturday will be the last chance to see the great man in the pool.

It was another huge disappointment for sisters Cate and Bronte Campbell of Australia.

The final two individual medals of the games went to Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri in the grueling 1,500 free and Pernille Blume of Denmark in the 50 freestyle.

According to Folha De S.Paulo, they must provide “full transparency of income and expenditure, and give justification for the need for support from the public purse”.

Ledecky joined compatriots Janet Evans and Brooke Bennett as the only swimmers to win this event at two Olympics and now owns the top 11 times ever in the event. Medals also will be awarded in the men’s 1500 meter freestyle.

Dressage rider Adelinde Cornelissen came to Rio with her horse Parzival and high hopes – they won individual silver and team bronze in London.

But gymnasts are in action elsewhere – this time it’s the turn of the men on the trampoline.

It is not clear exactly how much impact this will have on preparations, although serious concerns are already growing over the financing of the Paralympics due to take place from September 7 until 18.
