Imam Shot in the Head Near a New York Mosque
An imam and a second man were shot by a gunman outside a NY mosque in which reports said was a targeted attack.
A gunman walked up to the unnamed religious leader on Saturday afternoon as he as he and his assistant were leaving the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid Mosque in Ozone Park. The condition of the two men was not immediately known.
One of the victims is reportedly the head imam, the person who runs services, at the mosque. “When I came here, they were doing CPR to both of the people on the ground”.
Police said the lone gunman wasn’t captured but pointed to robbery as the preliminary motivation for the shooting, NBC 4 reports.
The suspect was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt and carrying a large handgun, police sources say. Somebody else with him.
The two men were rushed to Jamaica Hospital where one was pronounced dead.
