Impact of state teacher shortage growing
Last year, Alliance Academy faced a harsh reality, only nine percent of students were reading at or above grade level. Vacations had already been planned, tickets had been bought and arrangements that could not easily be changed at the last minute had been made.
Schools are being maligned these days because some see them as a panacea that can cure all student ills.
The AFT represents 1.6 million pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; federal, state and local government employees; nurses and healthcare workers; and early childhood educators. This recent news has left the parents angry. The random “inspections” of schools seem to be politically motivated and intended to intimidate school officials. Overall scores at those schools will drop. It is obvious that the intimidation and harassment is working to the detriment of the officials planning the raids and ordering the “inspections”. Are those things really more important than our children’s education? Overcrowding of schools is a very real issue that should have been addressed long ago. But each co-teacher must be “responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating instruction for all students in the class”. The result is that the quality of education suffers. We must do the child rearing and be their parents and not their friends. I wonder how many schools could have been built with the money and manpower wasted on these raids.

A lot of them believe they’ll devalue their career track if they support the idea that people from different professions can quickly become effective teachers through alternative training programs.
“Are we really OK with eliminating high-level science classes because we refuse to pay teachers a competitive wage?”
Is the staff educated in child development, CPR, and first-aid techniques? Ask. Why are students finding it necessary to turn to outside sources to be able to pass the required exams? Students would be allowed to design their own courses, teach others their favorite subjects, create student societies, give speeches, organize events and participate in activities. Many have no public provision for deleting student data, and only a minority say anything about how information would be protected in a corporate acquisition or bankruptcy.
“What this will lead to is a two-tiered system that says that art is for those who can afford to pay for it, rather than an entitlement for all”. Everyone should have the same opportunities available to those who can afford expensive private schools or after-class dershanes.
