Improving quality of education biggest challenge: Javadekar
Earlier in the day, Javadekar took charge as HRD Minister in the presence of his two junior ministers, Upendra Kushwaha and Mahendra Singh Pandey.

After Smriti Irani was transferred to the Textiles Ministry, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) President said justice had not been served to Vemula, who committed suicide in Hyderabad.
Kushwaha has been MoS HRD since May 2014, while Javadekar and Pandey were given the ministry in Tuesday’s reshuffle.

Speaking to NDTV, Guha said, “She (Irani) has proved disastrous as education minister, a risky combination of arrogance and ignorance”, adding that Prakash Javadekar (who has now been given Irani’s charge) is, in comparison, more respectful and consultative. Praising PM Narendra Modi’s vision of education, he said it should become an “agent of change” and “emancipator”. “We will come out with our road map”, he said.
“I have spoken to Irani and I will also talk to former HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi”.
When asked, the newly appointed HRD Minister told reporters that Smriti could not make it to the occasion as she was preoccupied with some other work. The new Textile Minister said that Prime Minister Modi in his developmental roadmap for the country has given a place of prominence to the sector & she’s happy that she’s been chosen to implement it.
The Indian education sector is one of the biggest in the world and caters to over 300 million students via 1.4 million schools and over 45,000 colleges and universities. Junior environment minister Prakash Javadekar takes over from Irani at the Human Resource Development Ministry.
“A portion of the policy is already online and we are getting good feedback”. Interacting with the media persons, he stressed that his ministry’s mission will be to provide quality education for all, thereby transforming life, especially that of poor.
She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for placing her in charge of a sector that has enormous potential to generate employment.
