In Beatles hits sells for
Multi-millionaire Indianapolis Colts NFL owner Jim Irsay, 56, shelled out for the three-piece instrument at a fundraiser in LA.
He has reunited the Beatles, sort of.
A studio drum set played by Ringo Starr, the first Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl drum kit, used for the Beatles’ early recordings is shown in this photo released on December 2, 2015.
Paul McCartney, guitarist John Lennon, drummer Ringo Starr and guitarist George Harrison perform on live TV in 1963.
“Finally, after 45 years, the Beatles are together again”, the text read.
Meanwhile, Irsay soon could be giving his head coach and/or G.M. the Pete Best treatment.
It featured in more than 200 performances between May 1963 and February 1964 and can be heard in smash hits such as Can’t Buy Me Love, She Loves You and I Want To Hold Your Hand.
The mono pressing was the very first in the United Kingdom of the 1968 album.
The No. 0000001 album was sold by Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills.
Part of the sale proceeds will go to the Lotus Foundation which funds and promotes charitable projects aimed at advancing social welfare.
According to the AP news agency, the Ludwig drum kit was sold to Jim Irsay, owner of the American Football team Indianapolis Colts.
Irsay is a huge music fan and an avid collector.
