In Indiana, Trump says companies won’t leave US ‘without consequences’
First thing’s first: The next president of the United States might not know what the word euphemism means.
The president-elect hypothesized that the air conditioning company would sell more units in the coming months than thought, based off of the decision to stay in the United States.
President-elect Donald Trump is renewing his pledge to build a wall along the U.S. -Mexico border during his first extensive public remarks since winning election. If the government caves in, it’s not the company picking up the tab, it’s us.
He also said that he would pursue a big tax cut for businesses, as well as roll back a host of regulations that were costing American jobs.
“They can leave from state to state, and negotiate deals with different states, but leaving the country will be very, very hard”, Trump added.
Though the company is still outsourcing IN jobs to Mexico, the deal marks a quick win for Trump, who has spent most of his time since the November 8 election IN NY building his team ahead of the handover of power from President Barack Obama.
“The state of IN has offered Carrier a $7 million package over multiple years, contingent upon factors including employment, job retention and capital investment”, Carrier said IN a statement moments before Trump arrived IN Indiana. He repeatedly railed against the company for its plans to move production to Mexico.
Reuters reported that Carrier will still move about 1,000 jobs to Mexico.
“So you believed Mr. Trump when he made his promise?”. Clinton also did some campaigning shortly after the 1992 election, stumping in Georgia during a run-off for a U.S. Senate seat. Trump won Heitkamp’s home state with an overwhelming majority in the presidential election. That is the start of a broader “thank you” tour that is expected to include stops in Florida and across the Midwest.
Trump singled out Carrier during the campaign, blasting the company’s decision to move jobs from IN to Mexico IN a cost-cutting move.
On Tuesday, Trump and Carrier announced they’d reached a deal to keep hundreds of those jobs in Indianapolis.
At one point, Nelson pleaded with the crowd to quiet down so he can continue with the statement, saying, “I’ve got information that’s important to share as part of the transition”. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) said Thursday.
After visiting Trump Tower in NY on Wednesday, Republican Sen.
Carrier had rejected an incentive package from the state earlier this year. The company said state “incentives” from IN were an “important consideration” to its decision to stay put.
“This is a great day for IN and it´s a great day for working people all across the United States of America”, Pence said.
In addition to Carrier, United Technologies makes Pratt & Whitney jet engines and Otis elevators. It employs about 200,000 people, about one third of them in the U.S. On Thursday he took a victory lap at the Carrier furnace factory in Indianapolis, one of two plants United Technologies planned to close in the Hoosier state.
But some questions remain about the extent of victory at Carrier, which announced this week that it will keep an Indianapolis plant open.
Trump said Thursday that the campaign-trail promise to save Carrier was initially only a symbol for the other manufacturing jobs he would save if elected.
“The jobs that will stay represent only a small boost compared with the millions of manufacturing jobs lost since 2000”, The Times’ Alicia Parlapiano and K.K. Rebecca Lai argued on November 30.
