In Iowa, Christie criticizes Iran nuclear deal
Against a backdrop of Iran images and a beaten looking President Barack Obama, Christie in the ad says Obama lied about the Iran nuclear deal and by contrast plays up what he says are his national security credentials.
“I’m not against agreements and I’m not against negotiating with Iran, but you’ve got to get a fair deal and you have to represent that deal fairly to the American people”, Christie said.
“I’m still waiting for one fact from you, one fact about me being anti-gun”, Christie told the man at a community college in Ankeny, Iowa, The Des Moines Register reports. “You’re wrong about that, too”.
The man in the crowd then asked if Christie is planning on pardoning Brian Fletcher, a North Carolina man who is facing prison time after telling a police officer in New Jersey that he had a gun in his vehicle, which is the customary and legal thing to do in his home state.
Christie said that Obama has put the country’s military and law enforcement at risk and that members of Congress from both parties should refuse to support the plan. Christie said he hasn’t made a decision yet, but is reviewing the situation. Christie pointed out that his views have changed over the last 20 years.
Christie will be on the stump in Iowa Friday before returning to New Hampshire on Sunday.
Christie’s criticism came as his campaign launched a political ad nationally on Fox News – a $250,000 media buy – highlighting the governor’s position on the issue as he works to secure a spot in the August. 6 Fox News GOP primary debate in Ohio.
Following the town hall, Christie walked through Street Fest in downtown Davenport, where he shook hands, ate a bacon-wrapped, deep-fried Oreo and bought a bracelet for his daughter.
In the most recent Iowa Poll, 4 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers listed Christie as their first choice.
If he were president, Christie said, “every federal law that’s on the books will be enforced”.
