In Mumbai Artist Hema Upadhyay’s Murder, Husband Chintan Upadhyay Arrested
Hema, a Baroda-born installation artist, was locked in bitter divorce proceedings with Chintan, a contemporary artist.
Artist Hema Upadhyay’s husband Chintan has been arrested after he was questioned late on Monday night in connection with the murder of his estranged wife.
Chintan stay in Bombay: Chintan was in Bombay from December 2 to December 6.
Call to Bhambani family: Next day of Harish and Hema went missing, Chintan called Harish family asking about him.
Police sources said that Kandivli Police have a concrete lead in the double murder case and hence, brought in Chintan for questioning.
So far, police have arrested four persons in the case namely Azad Rajbhar, Pradeep Rajbhar, Vijay Rajbhar and Shivkumar Rajbhar alias Sadhu and booked them for murder and causing disappearance of evidence.
Meanwhile, the prime accused in the case – Vidya Rajbhar – is still at large.
A Mumbai police team has already left for Varanasi to coordinate the investigations and take charge of the accused. Two suspects were also detained in Mumbai, as TV channels claimed that Sadhu Rajbhar has confessed to the crime.
They said they suspected Chintan’s hand in the murder since he would always look for ways to spite her.
Chintan Upadhyay has told the police that though they were not together, he still loved his wife and they had no problems.
The bodies were recovered last evening from the cardboard boxes, which were found lying near a nullah (drain) in Morekar wadi-Dhanukarwadi close to the cremation ground behind Thakur International School in suburban Kandivali, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Detection Dhananjay Kulkarni said.
