In Prince Louis’ name, there’s a dash of tragic history

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the name of their third child: Louis Arthur Charles.
A great-grandson of Queen Victoria and the son of a German prince, he was known as His Serene Highness Prince Louis of Battenberg.
Both Louis’s father William and grandfather Charles have the name as one of their middle names. Charles is a tribute to Prince Louis’ grandfather Prince Charles.
Lord Mountbatten was killed in 1979 when the IRA planted a bomb in his boat during a leisure trip to Sligo, with then-Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams stating the death was “unfortunate” but the result of a “war situation”.

“Arthur ” stemming from Arthur Weasley who is, of course, the endearing patriarch of the family who’s obsessed with everything from the Muggle world.
Arthur is also William’s second name and honors King Arthur.
The brief moment led royal watchers to speculate that Arthur, which is also a royal name, could be a part of the newborn’s name. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son will travel home to Kensington Palace.
Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte saw their names jump in popularity after their birth, so it’s likely Prince Louis will experience the same thing.
His regulation said that only the monarch, their children, their grandchildren and one other person could be called His or Her Royal Highness – this person being the Prince of Wales’ first grandson.
William and Kate finally announced the name of their son on Friday following his birth on Monday.
The source reportedly told the publication: ‘George and Charlotte were with the baby for 25 minutes and were very excited to meet their new sibling’.
Prince Charles arrived back in the United Kingdom on Thursday, but is still yet to travel down to London to meet the new addition to his family.
However, Prince Charles; regular royal commitments and hectic schedule often prevent him from offering the same, hands-on care to his two – now three – grandchildren.
The public was shocked to find out the royal couple had made a decision to brand the baby “Louis” – an unexpected name for the bookies who had expected “Arthur” or “Alexander”. William had expressed his desire that the baby have a “strong name”. William’s name was announced after a week, and Charles’s wasn’t revealed publicly for a month. Louis was an unlikely bet, the name taking tenth place with bookies but the underdog won.
