In Pune, BJP gang forces multiplex to halt Bajirao Mastani shows
The story is narrated in such a way that it keeps you engrossed till the end.
The petition, filed by Pune-based activist Hemant Patil, said the film is on the life and history of Peshwa King Bajirao and his wives Kashibai and Mastani. The parallel thread about how the Peshwa’s wife Kashibai copes with this intruder in her life and the Peshwa’s mother and the priest’s rejection of Mastani to preserve the Peshwa lineage form a ideal stage for the love story to play out. Various people had come specially for the first show of “Bajirao Mastani” at City Pride Kothrud, were seen returning, while many people chose to book tickets for ‘Dilwale.’ Mayur Patil, who was there to book for the 3pm show for his family, made a decision to postpone for Sunday to be on the safer side. From her adorable conversations with her Bajirao, to the scene with her mother-in-law Radhabai (played by a formidable Tanvi Azmi) where they’re laughing, and subsequently crying over her husband’s love for Mastani, Priyanka shines.
The film then is largely about Bajirao’s continuing struggles to seek respectability for Mastani.
A still from Bajirao Mastani.
Several protesters were seen burning down posters of Rohit Shetty’s “Dilwale” and SRK in both the cities. The film conveys it all.
The trailer was loaded with spectacular war sequences and intense dialogues, which gives you the actual flavor of Bollywood. The love scenes between Bajirao and Mastani are so fascinating that they will leave you asking for more. Screenplay by Prakash Kapadia in the first half is slow on pace and it seems to be hurried in second half. This film wouldn’t have worked had the two not been at their best. Ranveer owns Bajirao’s character in a way very few Indian actors know how to.
Deepika Padukone according to me performs the weakest amongst the three stars.
Even songs which are individually good were losing their grace while running through the plot; blame it on the top class performances or the heavily glorified picturisation that the music took a back seat.
Actor Ranveer Singh is superb in his role and he delivered the career best performance in this movie. Her body language is too modern to embrace the charm of Mastani.
Priyanka Chopra may have been missing from the promotions but well, she is very much present in the film.
The films looks and feels gloriously epic. To add to the conflict, Bajirao was already married to Kashi (Priyanka Chopra). Kashibai teaches us the most important lesson of this film. She shines in literally each and every frame. It is her finest performance till date.
What’s your reaction to “Bajirao Mastani”?
It’s been in the making for 12 years and it’s finally here.
While there is no denying that business and audiences will get divided, it is also possible that instead of picking one over the other, audiences might consider watching both “Dilwale” and Bajirao Mastani’ during their run in the theatres.
