In strong attack, Biden says Trump has ‘no clue’
And they were just the opening acts.
Despite divisions in the party between its moderate and progressive wings, it is clear that President Obama’s charisma still captivates Democrats of all stripes.
Vice President Joe Biden reprised his many roles – Middle Class Joe, Obama Defender Joe, America First Joe – in a fiery takedown of Donald Trump and full-throated support of Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention.
Mr. Biden then quickly turned his attention to offer supportive words about presidential nominee Clinton.
“There’s not a liberal America and a conservative America – there’s the United States of America”. Tonight, Obama wasn’t just defending American exceptionalism; he was defending American democracy.
“I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as President of the United States of America”, Obama will say.
With his own approval ratings near 50 percent – higher than either Clinton’s or Trump’s – Obama could be a crucial supporter for this year’s Democratic nominee, especially if he’s successful in mobilizing the young and minority voters who twice helped propel him into the White House.
“Hope in the face of difficulty”, the president said.
After an introduction from his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, the vice president began by acknowledging that both he and President Barack Obama were very lucky men who “married way up”, earning a loud round of applause from the crowd.
When Biden cried that “this guy doesn’t have a clue”, the entire arena erupted in chants of “Not a Clue!” That’s the Hillary I’ve come to admire.
The comments came after Obama suggested that Russian Federation is likely responsible for hacking the Democratic National Committee and releasing thousands of internal emails that have roiled the convention.
Let’s face it: the Democratic vice presidential nominee drew a pretty tough speaking slot. “And when we are talking about Donald Trump we are not talking about the Democratic convention”, she said. And the most risky condition in this world today is the danger thatTrump could in fact be elected president of the United States. “Not a clue”, NBC News quoted Biden as saying on Wednesday night on the second day of the DNC here.
It’s all part of a whirlwind week for the Virginia Senator. He presented his working-class upbringing and time as a missionary in Honduras and later a civil rights attorney – a sharp contrast to Trump’s biography that Democrats will undoubtedly be happy to highlight over the coming months. That year, Clinton motioned to nominate the eventual president by acclamation on the convention floor, a gesture runner-up Sen. “I ask you to carry her the same way you carried me”, Obama said.
Fast forward to Wednesday night, and Obama was at it again.
He added: “While this nation has been tested by war and recession and all manner of challenges, I stand before you again tonight, after nearly two terms as your president, to tell you I am more optimistic about the future of America than ever before”.
How do you hate war and ISIS at the same time? She didn’t speak, but gave Obama a hug and linked arms with him as the two walked the stage.
Soon after Panetta spoke, the Trump campaign released a statement criticizing the former defense secretary’s stance. “She understands that the college loan is about more than getting a qualified student an education – it’s about saving a mom and a dad the indignity of having to look at their talented child and say, ‘Sorry, the bank wouldn’t lend me the money you need to get to school'”.
