IN unemployment rate ticks down to 4.4 percent
The report expected Friday from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services will show the unemployment rate for October.
Nineteen of the state’s 44 counties have unemployment rates higher than the state rate. Yet, the unemployment rate has remained about the same because 83,409 people have joined the labor force during the a year ago, a good sign for the economy. “Arkansas’ jobless rate is down nine-tenths of a percentage point over the year”.
In a release, the state labor department says the rate for September, which preliminarily had been reported at 6.9 percent, had been revised down to 6.8 percent.
The statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate slipped a tenth of a point to 3.5 percent even as nonfarm payrolls grew 6,000. Danbury, Stamford and Norwalk followed with respective rates of 3.5 percent, 3.8 percent and 3.9 percent.
Ohio’s rate was in line with the national average 4.9 percent. This ends two consecutive months of job declines, which totaled 800 jobs.
Governor Scott said, “I am proud to announce that almost 9,000 jobs were created by Florida businesses last month and more than 1.2 million jobs have been created since December 2010”.

Construction posted the largest gains on percentage basis, up 4.6 percent (adding 34,100 jobs). Gov. Rick Scott announced the jobs numbers during a visit to Ideal Aluminum, a manufacturer of gates, railings and fences, located in St. Augustine. Almost 3,000 jobs were pared from state and local governments and 2,200 construction jobs were cut in October. “And what we have here comes with some real red flags”. “We will have to await further data to see which direction our labor markets are headed”. Employment was up by 12,931, and the number of unemployed increased by 2,066.
