Incredible video of stunt rider ‘surfing’ waves on a dirt bike?!
With a little help from the Australian’s sponsors DC Shoes, Robbie went to the attractive Tahiti Islands to shoot a small commercial that also showcases his frankly superhuman prowess. It doesn’t matter. Short of curing cancer, nothing you’ve done in your whole life can compare to what Robbie Maddison’s been up to.
How does the perspective that we see in the photos and the video relate to what your perspective was of riding those waves in full gear on your bike?
The insane stunt took two years to flawless.
“People said “it’s a pipe dream”, “it’s never going to happen” and that’s how a lot of people looked at this thing and that’s the vibe I’ve got from a lot of people”, Maddison said.
The project took plenty of trial and error, including sinking Maddison’s bike – a Honda that was outfitted with two paddles – 30 or 40 times, TransWorld reports.
Maddison’s stunt was performed at Teahupoo in Tahiti, known for its powerful surf breaks, and quickly received accolades from professional surfers.
Despite a number of close calls, one of which included being swallowed by a wave on what turned out to be his final attempt, Maddison survived the shoot without any serious injuries. Okay, both. Either way, the motocross daredevil’s experiments with adding skis to a bike resulted in quite the awesome amphibious craft. “And if I could ride, then I should be able to catch a wave”. Either way, Maddison’s feat deserves vast respect and appreciation.
