‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ To Get Comic Book Prequel
It isn’t yet known who will be writing this Independence Day 2 prequel comic book, and none of the artists have been announced.
The news was revealed to The Hollywood Reporter yesterday, but there’s scant actual information other than the confirmation of Titan publishing the comic and… well, the fact that it exists, really. According to Titan, the sequel prequel will be “a rich psychological prison drama”, so don’t expect the original cast to show up.
It makes sense for the film, which is set 20 years after the events of the original, to have some story strands spread across a comic to avoid every character having to stop the scenes for some exposition (not that we won’t see plenty of it anyway).
This will be another string in the bow for Titan’s licensed comic line.
The sci-fi disaster thriller redefines a new defence technology for the planet to keep it more secured from aliens after their defeat in first part.
When mankind fought off the alien invasion during the events of Independence Day, it was inevitable that the aliens would eventually return for revenge.
“Resurgence” has a June 24, 2016 release directed by Rolan Emmerich starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Angelababy, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, and Jessie Usher. And maybe this will lead to a prison break, which allows the alien to send that distress signal?
Roland Emmerich is directing the sequel, and wrote the first draft of the script with Dean Devlin. Either way, we’ll have to wait for more information to be released. Emmerich and Devlin are additionally producing with Harald Kloser.
