Indesit warns owners of a few tumble dryers of fire risk from appliances
Two tumble dryers sold by INDESIT under its own name have been recalled, along with Hotpoint and Creda, following fears they could burst into flames.
One of the brands affected, Indesit, suggested that any excess fluff in the machine could be caught up in the heating element which could result in a fire.
A spokesman for Indesit could not be reached to give further details.
But with several million Whirlpool, Hotpoint and Indesit devices in British homes, the company did say it was a “significant figure”.
Anyone who bought dryers by Indesit, Hotpoint or Credit between April 2004 and September 2015 is advised to check their machine.
“If any of our customers have any concerns about their tumble dryer and have yet to hear from us, they should visit our online model checker at http://safety.hotpoint.eu or http://safety.indesit.eu and follow the steps set out to ensure that their appliance is not affected”.
While the machines are still safe to be used, according to the company, they advise the machine not to be left unattended.
Customers concerned that their model could be affected can use the Indesit website to check model and serial numbers.
“These products were marketed in the United Kingdom and a number of other countries over the past 11 years, so we would expect a fairly large number of them to be affected”.
The company said: ‘Repair programs [sic] of this type are extremely rare and affect a very small number of our product sales, but we would always encourage all our customers to register their appliances with us, as supported by the AMDEA Register My Appliance scheme, to receive relevant appliance updates’.
