India, Malaysia strengthen cooperation in trade, security
He reaffirmed India’s active participation in the ASEAN led security dialogue and cooperation forums and said the East Asia Summit must continue to support the evolution of an inclusive, balanced, transparent and open regional architecture for security and cooperation.
The countries signed another agreement to share information on cyber security attacks, strategies and technologies.
Kuala Lumpur: India will deepen its defence cooperation with Malaysia, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We will also make our defence cooperation stronger, including for advancing maritime security and strengthening disaster response in our region”, the Indian prime minister said.
Acknowledging that India has a very dynamic and strong defense industry, Najib said the relevant ministries in Malaysia and India would discuss possibilities of expanding bilateral defence and security.
He said it signalled closer cooperation and a new dimension in people-to-people engagement between both countries. Trade, urban and skill development, defence co-operation and cyber security are expected to be high on his agenda during the Singapore visit.
Mr. Modi said Mr. Najib and he were determined to explore steps to show concrete and early results.
After nearly five decades of having diplomatic ties, India and Singapore will become strategic partners for the first time on Monday.
Najib said the gate would also be a new landmark in Kuala Lumpur.
On India-China relations, PM Modi said, “India and China will engage constructively across the complexity of their relationship as two self-assured and confident nations, aware of their interests and responsibilities”.
In an effort to further broaden and deepen the relationship between the two countries, both leaders agreed to proceed with efforts to develop the bilateral strategic partnership.
Malaysia and India had enjoyed warm and wide ranging substantive relations based on historical, cultural and economic links which had brought about mutual benefits to both countries.

His Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak warmly welcomed him, following which Prime Minister Modi inspected the guard of honour during the ceremonial welcome.

An official ceremony in the presence of President Tony Tan, Mr Lee Hsien Loong as well as Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will be held tomorrow (Nov 24) to welcome Mr Modi to Singapore.
