India’s CBI rejects claim it raided office of Delhi chief minister
Kejriwal claimed his office too was raided, a charge denied by CBI as well as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Rajya Sabha where the Opposition created an uproar.
Meanwhle, Kejriwal tweeted that the files the CBI was looking for in his office were not related to a probe against his principal secretary Rajendra Kumar.
“Along with this, Kejriwal re-tweeted a post which read, “(PM Narendra) Modi has been weakened so others also have to be weaker” after the party’s defeat in the Bihar Assembly Elections.
Jitendra Singh, minister of state in the Prime Minister’s Office, criticised Kejriwal for making the allegation. Singh said the government doesn’t interfere with the working of the CBI. “CBI is an autonomous body, Central Govt does not interfere with its functioning at all”, he said.
“CBI raids my office”. Jaitley had yesterday dismissed the allegations against him as “rubbish”. “Tomorrow, if my own son is found guilty of corruption, I will send him to jail as well”. Almost 20 minutes later, the investigators had taken over the office of Rajender Kumar, next door to the Chief Minister, on the third floor. Kejriwal reiterated that finance ministry Arun Jaitley was using CBI to snoop around to get information on the enquiry launched by Delhi government into corruption cases of Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) which was headed by Jaitley for long.
While the CBI has accused Mr. Kumar of conspiracy, criminal misconduct and abuse of official position, the Aam Aadmi Party came out in his defence, giving him a “clean chit”. “Before appointing someone as principal secretary, he should have checked his background”, Hazare said.
Mr Kejriwal reportedly worked from the office of his deputy Manish Sisodia.
In between, he added, some CBI sleuths were taking photos of certain files and documents with their mobile phones and “WhatsApped them to their bosses”. When someone in the press asked Kejriwal if he had suffered from an easier to explain attack of vertigo, Kejriwal refuted the claim and said, “It is Modi…”
“If the raid was in Chief Minister’s office it was in his office”. The Congress has stalled Parliament alleging the case as vendetta by the BJP.
That sparked an angry condemnation from a furious BJP which demanded an apology from the chief minister for his “disgraceful” remarks. But the visibly furious chief minister said the CBI was lying because its officers did search his office. The CM’s table will have only files he has to look into that day and other documents he requests for.
