India takes up with the US issue of students’ deportation
“So far, 14 students who travelled on Air India flights to San Francisco have been deported”.
Another group of about 19 students was stopped from boarding flight at Hyderabad by Air India following a report that the university which they were about to join in United States is under scrutiny by the local authorities there.
Air India said the decision was taken after being informed from USA authorities that the universities to which they had secured admission, were under “scrutiny”.
“Considering the situation, as a precautionary measure and to avoid inconvenience, students booked for travel to take admission to these universities are not being accepted on Air India flights”, the statement said.
The weird barring of the students at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport – all of whom were due at Bay Area schools – apparently came from past problems of students studying at those colleges, the airline said.
But the grounded students were still left with soar feeling, wondering why they were granted visas in the first place if there would be problems. They said since students had been deported from the U.S., preventing them from flying would save them harassment.
It has offered full refund and said that once clearance is received, it will accommodate the students on its flights at no additional cost.
While Silicon Valley University has had accreditation of the Council since 2003, North Western Polytechnic has had accreditation since 1998 till date. “The ones that got turned back faltered in answering questions”, said Au.

The US Consulate in Hyderabad, in an explanation of DHS rules, stated, “Failure to comply with the regulations can result in determination that a school or a school system is no longer eligible for certification”.
“The students were not issued boarding passes”.
The US higher education system is considered the gold standard in education and the scams have the potential to hurt legions of foreign students who gravitate towards America every year.
