India, US sign logistic exchange pact boosting defence ties
Our correspondent reports terrorism and the signing of the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement is likely to top the agenda for talks.
India and the United States are set to sign a key logistics agreement this week which will enable both militaries to use each other’s assets and bases for fix and replenishment of supplies.
The defense defense minister Manohar Parrikar will be flying Monday to meet the obama government and will be asking the usa to provide India with lethal drone technology.

This will be the sixth meeting between the two leaders which reflects the growing defence cooperation between India and US. The Defence Minister will travel to Philadelphia to visit the facility of Boeing, which has a major stake in India’s defence sector.
However, after India formally applied for membership to the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) in June 2015, and with the active support of France and the United States officially became member on June 27, 2016, the possibility of New Delhi being able to convince Washington to part or share this drone technology, appears to be bright. Carter and Parrikar announced their agreement to further consultations in this area, including through the next Maritime Security Dialogue, which will be held later this year. They welcomed the conclusion of the bilateral “White Shipping” technical arrangement for data sharing on commercial shipping traffic and also discussed cooperation on capabilities to augment India’s capacity for maritime domain awareness (MDA).
