Indian actress Ramya booked over pro-Pakistan comments
Kannada actor-turned-politician Ramya, also known as Divya Spandana, is being trolled for her alleged remark that “Pakistan is not hell” since the past couple of days, The Times of India reported.
In his complaint to the JMFC on Monday, Gowda alleged that “Ramya had insulted Indian patriots by praising Pakistan”.
Spandana visited Pakistan when she attended a South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) conference in Islamabad a year ago. It is nothing like that. All she said is when she went to work, Pakistan people treated her very well. Later, he took an indirect dig at the BJP saying the relations between India and Pakistan had improved under A B Vajpayee. It has become fashionable to call people traitors just because they don’t subscribe to one’s idea of nationalism. “I think that as an individual I should be allowed to air or express my thoughts, views and opinions. Parrikar’s comments (that going to Pakistan or hell is the same thing) are not true”. She further added that she was “entitled to freedom of speech”, therefore she does not owe anyone an apology.
The case will be heard on Saturday. “Just because borders separate us we shouldn’t hate others”, she said.
Ramya, a member of the Congress Party recently returned from Islamabad, after attending the SAARC Young Parliamentarians Conference 2016.
According to reports, Ramya has said she will not apologise as she has done nothing wrong.
“She has not made any controversial statement but only shared her feelings and experiences of her visit to Pakistan in her personal capacity as a lawyer”, he said.
Ramya, the actor, who had been on a recent trip to Pakistan, said, “Pakistan is not hell”. That was after the Karnataka police registered a sedition case against Amnesty International for azadi slogans raised at their seminar.
