Indian Camp Confident Narsingh Yadav Will Wrestle in Rio Games
CAS has agreed to fast-track the process after requests from Narsingh and has now agreed that the Indian wrestler will appear before the panel on August 18, a day before his bout, which will be his final hearing.
Narsingh, who bagged the quota with a bronze medal finish in last year’s World Championships, tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid on both his “A” and “B” samples.
But NADA exonerated him of all the doping charges on August 1, after postponing the verdict twice in July, saying he “was a victim of sabotage done by a competitor”.
If CAS upholds WADA’s appeal Narsingh, who is scheduled to fight in the 74kg freestyle category on August 19, will not be able to take part in the Rio Games. “We will reply on basis of merit, let’s hope for the best”.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, China’s Anti-Doping Agency said, “WADA informed them in a letter that the lab had made improvement and met the reqirements put forth by WADA”. We then approached the Rio Olympic Organising Committee and filled in his entry form after they gave the green light.
And adding to the miserable run was the news that some of its contingent members were served only “peanuts” at a dinner party organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports here on Independence Day, after having skipped dinner at the Games Village.
It was then that dna asked the WFI president whether there was any clearance from WADA.
WADA had suspended the accreditation of Beijing’s national anti-doping laboratory in April, weeks after launching a probe into drugs allegations in Chinese swimming. “Only that will satisfy you”.
With over 100 athletes from Russian Federation fighting similar cases in CAS, allowing Narsingh to compete here would be like opening a Pandora’s box for the WADA.
Narsingh, whose hopes had risen after NADA’s exoneration, will once again be in the doldrums after the sudden blow from WADA. Narsingh has come in Rio de Janeiro only after he was given the green signal from the worldwide governing body.
