Indian coach: Sourav Ganguly hits back Ravi Shastri
The former India captain, who was named for the coveted post last week, has involvement in a company called Tenvic, which is in the business of sports and consulting.
Commenting on Ganguly’s counter-attack, Bedi expressed sadness that the two former India captains were fighting and that it would make the media and the non-cricketers among BCCI officials.
“There is absolutely no conflict of interest. It was a three-man committee and I am not the sole decider”. “And now I think this journey that I embark on where some of them will certainly become great players and they are in the making of great players”, Kumble added. There are other national coaches like Darren Lehmann on the committee.
The previous coach Duncan Fletcher, who joined Team India in 2011 and served till 2015, was paid Rs.4.2 crore per annum.
Ganguly, however, refused to divulge if the committee felt Shastri would be the best option as batting coach. BCCI had sent him the time. “I am surprised at reports of me applying after the deadline surfaced”.
A “disappointed” former Team Director Ravi Shastri today hit out at Sourav Ganguly saying he was “disrespectful” of the candidate he was interviewing and the job of selecting the coach he was entrusted with. “This is my biggest challenge at present”, the legendary third highest wicket-taker in the world told reporters here on Wednesday. The idea was to get them to look at it, and add value to it. However, BCCI put down the suggestion and reminded that CAC was only allowed to choose the Head Coach.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, who was advised by Shastri to be present at such important meetings, also said that such important interviews are not given on camera.
The controversy surrounding the selection of the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team has taken a new spin. He is regarded as one who moulded the team at the turn of the century into a tough fighting unit that consistently tasted success overseas. “Bowling is one area where I can contribute”, Kumble said at a press conference. We, the support staff would be working in the background.
“One needs to achieve a consensus”.
“That’s something I sought as a player because it was not always that I played in every team that played for India during my time”.
Kumble was more comfortable and open talking about his own role.
Former India batsman Devang Gandhi believes it is the return of the golden generation of cricketers who had once ruled the roost in Indian cricket. He did a fantastic job as team director.
“I am just there to help”. That is something I am looking at.Get closer to the bowlers and understand what their needs are and then probably looking at bringing in a fast bowling coach. It was basically a family decision, as my wife had to agree first. His wisdom on the application of technology to the game of cricket was even more profound: “I don’t have a laptop”.
